PEARL, Miss. 69制片厂制作传媒 It was a very productive trip to the Magnolia State for the Tennessee Smokies as they wrapped up their series with three wins against the Mississippi Braves over the weekend.
The Smokies had won the first three games of the series with the Braves but Mississippi bounced back with a 7-6 win in Friday69制片厂制作传媒檚 contest. Justin Dean hit a line-drive single to left that allowed Cal Conley to score the game-winner on a walk-off.
Matt Shaw scored in the first on a Jonathon Long single and Haydn McGeary69制片厂制作传媒檚 12th double of the season brought Long around to make it 2-0 in the top of the first. Yolbert Sanchez picked up an RBI with a ground out in the bottom of the first for the Braves. Tennessee built a 6-1 lead in the third on RBI hits by Long, Felix Stevens and William Simoneit but the Braves answered with a five-spot in the home half of the fifth, all on singles. Conley69制片厂制作传媒檚 single tied things up at 6-6 and Dean provided the walk-off knock in the ninth. Dalton Moates (0-2) took the loss for the Smokies while Jorge Juan (2-4) was the winner for Mississippi.
Tennessee got right back to their winning ways on Saturday as they downed the Braves 8-5. Luis Verdugo went 3-for-4 with three runs driven in for the Smokies. Antonio Santos (5-3) had nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings and Eduarniel Nunez picked up his third save of the season with three K69制片厂制作传媒檚 in two innings. Luis De Avila slipped to 4-10 for the Braves.
Verdugo, Stevens and Christian Franklin69制片厂制作传媒檚 three hits in the second put three runs on the board for the Smokies. After Long doubled to score James Triantos, Verdugo did damage again with an RBI single. Matt Shaw69制片厂制作传媒檚 sacrifice to right built a 6-0 lead as Franklin came home. Just as they had done the night before, Mississippi mounted a comeback and was able to get to within two runs on a three-run blast to right by Tyler Tolve but Verdugo came through again, this time with his third single of the game to score Long that made the final score 8-5.
The Smokies finished off the series against the Braves with a 7-3 win on Sunday. Tennessee had 11 hits against Mississippi which included three doubles, a triple by Triantos and a home run by Stevens. Ben Leeper got the win in relief of Chris Kachmar. Jake McSteen was the loser on the mound for the Braves.
The Kodak visitors fell behind 3-0 through the first two innings before they scored three to tie the game on Triantos69制片厂制作传媒 triple and Long69制片厂制作传媒檚 two-run double. The sixth inning was a productive one for Tennessee as Stevens smacked a solo shot to center, Franklin doubled in a run and Shaw had an RBI hit. Verdugo69制片厂制作传媒檚 11th double of the season brought Long in for the final Smokies69制片厂制作传媒 run in the seventh.
Tennessee69制片厂制作传媒檚 5-1 series win against the Braves helped them stretch their lead in the Southern League North Division to seven games at 21-12 in the second half of the season and 61-40 overall.
Chattanooga comes to Smokies Park this week for a six-game series that begins Tuesday night.
