Bereket Evans poured in a game-high 26 points, but the Trojans couldn69制片厂制作传媒檛 get enough production elsewhere in a 70-56 loss to Powell on Friday night.
With the loss, the Trojans fell back to .500 at 8-8 and snapped a two-game win streak. The Panthers improved to 7-9 with the win.
69制片厂制作传媒淭hey came in they punched us in the mouth, and they absolutely they wore us out,69制片厂制作传媒 head coach Joe Dobyns said. 69制片厂制作传媒淪o, give them all the credit in the world. They came in here and did what they were supposed to do. They came in here with some intensity and desire, and they took it from us. And one of the things that we've got to make sure we do a better job of is not letting that happen.
69制片厂制作传媒淲e got to make sure that we stand up, draw a line in the sand and say, 69制片厂制作传媒楾his is not gonna happen tonight.69制片厂制作传媒 We didn't do that tonight. They came in here and took it from us and wore us out.69制片厂制作传媒
While Evans led all scorers, no other Trojan finished with double-digits. Meanwhile, Powell saw four different scorers with at least 10.
West69制片厂制作传媒檚 Joey Mihalko finished with seven while TJ Walthall and Juan Gallardo each had six. Evans hit three shots from behind the arc.
69制片厂制作传媒(Evans) continues to fight and do what we ask him to do,69制片厂制作传媒滵obyns said. 69制片厂制作传媒淗e keeps trying. He keeps sticking his nose in there and keeps working hard. I appreciate that from him. And you know, we69制片厂制作传媒檝e had some other guys do that as well. We just got to get that consistent across the whole team to be able to pull off a game like tonight.69制片厂制作传媒
The Trojans came out with intensity on the defensive side of the ball and built a 10-4 lead after a pair of Gallardo free throws.
Powell was able to close the gap to three before Evans got a scoop and score to end the first quarter with a 12-7 lead.
West came out in the second quarter and got sloppy. It turned the ball over on three straight possessions and allowed the Panthers to take a 19-15 lead.
The sloppy play continued to end the half, but Evans was able to score a trio of buckets to keep things close at the break, 24-23 in favor of Powell.
The third quarter is where it all went downhill for the Trojans.
After West took a 26-24 lead early with a three from Evans, Powell went on a 12-2 run to take a 36-28. The Panthers steadily grew their lead for the remainder of the quarter, and a pair of threes helped them take a 50-31 lead to end a 26-8 quarter.
69制片厂制作传媒淲e actually had a lead there in the third quarter, and then from there, it just kind of went south,69制片厂制作传媒 Dobyns said. 69制片厂制作传媒淓arly on, we didn't start real crisp and I think we gave up. I think it was three offensive rebounds and three turnovers in the first three minutes of the game that kind of let them hang around when we had opportunities to distance ourselves early. We just didn't get that done and let them hang around. Gave them some confidence.69制片厂制作传媒
The Trojans could not start fast enough in the final frame but made a late push to come back within 11. However, it was too late to do any significant damage, and West watched the clock expire with a 70-56 deficit.
The Trojans faced Knox West on Monday night and will head across town to face East on Friday.
