While Juneteenth is a federal holiday that marks the freeing of slaves, Emancipation Day in Tennessee, sometimes called Freedom day, is a state holiday that has been celebrated since 1871.

August 8 was the day in 1863 that President Andrew Johnson freed his personal slaves in Greeneville, seven months after the Emancipation Proclamation did so for slaves in other southern states. At that point, Tennessee69制片厂制作传媒檚 slaves were recognized as Emancipated.

Due to some unforseen issues, the Taskforce on Diversity was not able to organize their typically annual Juneteenth celebration, so organizers are looking forward to celebrating freedom on the August.

Parks and Rec Program Coordinator Jennifer Gentry said she69制片厂制作传媒檚 looking forward to the food, music and, especially, people coming together.

There will be a drawing for two tickets to see rapper Ludacris perform at the Tennessee State Fair in September.

Stan 69制片厂制作传媒淭he Man69制片厂制作传媒� Brooks has been coming to Morristown to spin tunes for events for several years and always brings a playlist that keeps people grooving. He is known for bringing folks together for some soulful line dancing.

The Billy Crawford Band are going to be bringing the blues to the stage.

Hailing from Bristol, Billy Crawford is a blues extraordinaire and has also been seen in the Lakeway Area playing alongside renowned blues harpist and Morristown-born Wallace Coleman on stages in the region.
